Florence Christmas parade set for Dec. 8
FLORENCE – The Florence Christmas Parade will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.
It will be a sentimental time for Pat Gibson-Hye Moore, who calls the parade the setting of a Christmas miracle.
She explained Friday that she and a cousin were brought together by the parade. At the time, the Jaycees had stopped hosting the parade and Gibson-Hye Moore was working to save the annual Christmas reminder in Florence. At the time, the cousin, Linda Becote, was seeking to get to know Gibson-Hye Moore, who was adopted when she was young.
Gibson-Hye Moore said she was ignoring Becote but was brought together with her while working on the Christmas parade.
“We call that our Christmas miracle,” Gibson-Hye Moore said. “We didn’t know each other before, and now we’re like sisters.”
Now, the Florence Christmas Parade committee is in its 13 th or 14 th year of hosting the parade, and Gibson-Hye Moore and the committee are working to make sure the parade is even better than the 2017 version.
The 2018 Florence Christmas Parade is scheduled to begin at the corner of Edisto and West Evans streets. it will go toward downtown and will end at the corner of N.B. Baroody and East Evans streets.
Several different categories of awards and trophies are available to participants. There is a $50 fee to participate in the parade per unit. Anything more than four units will have a flat fee of $100. Checks should be made payable to the Florence Christmas Parade committee.
