A Cardinal Gibbons High School student who died in a high-speed crash in northern Wake County last fall killed herself, according to a medical examiner’s investigative summary released Friday.

Madeline Grace Shook, 16, of Raleigh, was northbound on Possum Track Road on the morning of Oct. 16 when her car ran off the road and struck several trees, authorities said.

Authorities said Shook was going about 95 mph in a 45-mph zone. She was the only person in the car and died at the scene.

The investigative report said authorities found a suicide note in Shook’s bedroom, as well as “a kitchen knife soiled with blood [and] two syringes filled with blood contents.”

“At this time, investigation indicates this was a suicide death due to multiple blunt force trauma injuries,” the medical examiner wrote in the report.
