SAN DIEGO (AP) _ Brock Jacobsen scored 16 points off the bench, including two free throws with two seconds remaining, as San Diego defeated San Diego State 69-65 Saturday night.
Sean Flannery gave the Toreros (3-1) a 67-63 lead by hitting one free throw with 13 seconds remaining.
The Aztecs (2-1) pulled to 67-65 on a basket by Paul Jarrett with five seconds to play. Jarrett intentionally missed an ensuing free throw, but the rebound went out-of-bounds to the Toreros with three seconds remaining.
Jacobsen then hit two free throws after being fouled following a timeout.
The Toreros have won four straight and seven of their last eight against San Diego State. In the crosstown rivals’ last meeting, San Diego won the 1992-93 season-opener 85-60.
Ryan Williams had 12 points and 10 rebounds for San Diego. James Black also scored 12 points, while David Fizdale added 10 assists.
Chad Nelson scored 14 points and Leon Carter 12 to lead the Aztecs.
The game was marred by 50 fouls, 23 against the Aztecs and 27 against San Diego.
San Diego State hurt itself at the free throw line by going 11-of-25 in the second half and 22-of-39 overall. The Toreros were 17-of-21 at the line.
