Kawasaki beats Kobe 3-1 and moves back atop J-League
TOKYO (AP) — Veteran striker Yoshito Okubo scored twice to help Kawasaki Frontale beat Vissel Kobe 3-1 and reclaim first place in the J-League on Saturday.
Okubo, the all-time leading scorer in the first division with 165, converted from the penalty spot in the second half to cancel out Kazuma Watanabe’s late first-half goal for Kobe.
Okubo gave Kawasaki the lead for good six minutes later with his ninth goal of the season. Elsinho secured the win in the final minute of regulation.
Frontale moved one point ahead of Urawa Reds, who were held by Albirex Niigata to a goalless draw at home.
In other games, Avispa Fukuoka edged Shonan Bellmare 1-0 at home, while Omiya Ardija beat Vegalta Sendai by the same score courtesy of Akihiro Ienaga’s second-half goal.
