North Carolina woman gets 5 years in toddler’s death
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina woman has been sentenced to up to five and a half years in prison for her role in the death of her 18-month old daughter.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that 23-year-old Vanessa Arianna Sanchez was sentenced in court in Fayetteville on Tuesday.
An autopsy determined that Violent Sky Cortez died from being hit in the head in 2015 in an apartment building Sanchez shared with her then fiance, 24-year-old Andrew Tyler Tomczak.
Sanchez and Tomczak were originally charged with first-degree murder.
Tomczak pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in March and was sentenced to between 10 and 13 years in prison.
Sanchez pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to murder in 2016. Her sentencing was delayed until now for her testimony against Tomczak.
