Jackson beginning talks with next zoo operators
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Jackson City Council has voted to start of contract negotiations with the business that will run the city’s zoo.
The Clarion-Ledger reports that the operator is expected to keep the facility in west Jackson.
Council members voted unanimously to allow the city to enter contract negotiations with St. Louis-based ZoOceanarium LLC. The contract with the city would be for five years.
The company would take over day-to-day operations from the nonprofit Jackson Zoological Society, which has managed the zoo for close to 35 years. A final agreement between the city administration and company representatives must come back before the council for approval.
Company representatives said further assessment will be needed, but their initial plans center around keeping the zoo in west Jackson.
