Aces cross country headlined by Gehrig Jones and Jada Smith in Big Eight meet
JASPER, Ind. -- Mount Carmel’s cross country teams traveled to Jasper to compete in the annual Big Eight Conference 5k meet on Saturday, Sept. 29. The boys finishing seventh out the seven teams and the girls placed fourth among the seven teams. Each had a standout performer.
Freshman Gehrig Jones led the boys side with a ninth place finish in a time of 18:34. Jones was joined by sophomore Jada Smith on the girls half. Smith placed 10th with a finish of 24:09. The pair won All Big Eight Conference honors for their top 10 finishes at the meet.
Following Jones, sophomore Chase Keepes placed 34th with a time of 21:53, junior Boyd Holt just a slot behind at 35th and a time of 22:01, senior Clay Critchfield placed 38th with a time of 23:31, junior Skyler Pritchett in 39th with his time of 22:46 and senior Gary Harniss rounding out the Aces in 40th with his 23:27 finish.
For the fourth place girls, Smith was joined by sophomore Haley Wright in 16th place with her 26:02 finish, Bridget Jackson’s finish of 23rd with a time of 28:53, junior Desirae Miller followed Jackson at 26th and a time of 32:12 and sophomore Taylor Roosevelt rounding out the group in 28th and timed at 37:06.
Having earned All-Conference honors, Jones and Smith’s squads will have their next meet on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Harrisburg at 4 p.m. The following day (Oct. 4), they’ll host Fairfield in their first home meet of the season at 4 p.m.
