Local Roundup: Nashoba’s Brown Nets 100th Career Point

NORTHBORO -- Natalie Brown scored a pair of goals to reach 100 points for her career and the Nashoba Regional field hockey team locked up a playoff berth with a 5-1 win over host Algonquin on Friday.

Brown now sits at 64 goals and 36 assists for her career, while the Chieftains improve to 10-0 on the season. Gigi Fay added a goal on a penalty stroke and assisted on one of Brown’s tallies, Maggie Salmon added one goal and Lauren Hill had one goal and one assist in the victory. Macey Poitras-Cote scored for Algonquin (6-2-2).

The Blue Devils led 17-9 in the early going, and trailed only 24-17 at halftime before host Doherty was able to pull away. Leading the way in defeat for Leominster (0-5), Adam Couch returned a fumble 95 yards for a defensive score, and Felipe Garcia Jr. returned a kick for a touchdown.

St. Bernard’s 8

The Bernardians (4-1) scored late and pulled within six points with a 2-point conversion, but couldn’t complete the comeback as they suffered their first loss of the season in a hard-fought road contest.

Sam Bolinsky threw a pair of touchdown passes as Nashoba improved to 5-0 on the season with the road victory. Matt Johnson hauled in a 2-yard scoring pass in the second quarter, and teammate Jack Cahill added a 15-yard touchdown reception in the fourth to seal the victory.

Donny Crowley played well in defeat for Sizer, and teammate Lucak Kelly scored a highlight-reel, unassisted goal. Innovation (6-4) goals were scored by Patrick Candor, Marco Savi, Diego Goodrich, Sean O’Connor, Josh Brown Chris Candor and Sam Proctor.

In a game that saw three penalty-kick goals, Marlboro managed to come out on top. Alban Baboci scored on a PK for North Middlesex, and teammate Roody Clemetson added another tally, assisted by Owen Marr. Pedro Pinho, however, scored a pair of PK goals for Marlboro, and Andre Faria’s unassisted goal proved to be the difference.

The Bernardians fell to 3-6 on the season with the loss on the road. Next up for St. Bernard’s is Tuesday’s 4 p.m. game at Monty Tech.

Abby McNulty scored in the 30th minute for Nashoba Regional before the Mountaineers tied the contest in the 60th minute off a well-struck free kick by Trish Palotta.

Lunenburg senior Emily Nash earned medalist honors with a 2-over-par 37 at Settlers Crossing as the Blue Knights improved to 8-5-1 on the season. St. Bernard’s (4-3) was led by a round of 38 from Patrick Ginnity. The teams will meet again on Monday at Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg.

Sara Murphy finished with 11 kills and Dani Croft added nine to lead North Middlesex. With the victory, the Patriots improve to 7-5. Set scores were 26-24, 25-11 and 25-23.

Emily Keaveney led Nashoba (11-2) in both aces (8) and kills (12). She had 8 aces and 12 kills. Set scores were 25-12, 25-11, 20-25 and 25-19.
