February 27, 1997

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) _ Ryan Perryman had 18 points and Darnell Hoskins added 15 as Dayton beat Duquesne 78-64 Wednesday.

Dayton improved to 13-12 overall and 6-9 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Duquesne fell to 8-17 and 4-11.

It was Dayton’s fourth win in a row and assured the Flyers of at least a fourth-place finish in the conference’s Western Division.

The game was tight until midway through the first half, when Dayton pulled away to a 37-27 halftime lead, thanks in part to two three-point baskets by Rodney Horton and another by Edwin Young.

Perryman, whose 10.2 rebounding average led the conference and was tied for 14th in the nation coming into the game, had seven rebounds.

Perryman had 10 of his points in the first half.

Tom Pipkins had 25 points for Duquesne and teammate Kevin Price added 16.

With the win, Dayton avenged an 80-71 loss in January to Duquesne.
