MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) _ Eastern Michigan quarterback Charlie Batch threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns, but it was his 1-yard scoring run that provided the winning margin in a 31-24 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.

Batch went in from a yard out with 6:27 remaining, capping a quarter in which the Eagles (1-3 overall, 1-2 Mid-American West) scored 21 unanswered points to erase a 14-point deficit.

Both quarterbacks carried their teams as the ground games combined for only 100 yards _ 44 yards for Eastern and 56 for Central.

Batch’s performance overshadowed that of his counterpart, Tim Crowley, who completed 25-of-48 for 412 yards and scoring passes of 75 and 37 yards.

The Chippewas led 17-3 at halftime, behind a 27-yard field goal by Casey Wilson, a 75-yard scoring pass from Crowley to Reggie Allen and a 2-yard TD run by Eric Flowers.

The teams traded touchdowns in the third, Eastern scoring on an 8-yard strike from Batch to Ta-if Kumasi and Crowley answering with his second TD, a 37-yarder to Allen, who caught six passes for 170 yards.

Batch brought the Eagles back in the final quarter, finding Faheem Ali on a 16-yard TD pass with 10:45 to play. Eastern tied the game 1:43 later when Batch hit Jermaine Sheffield on a 10-yard score, setting up Batch’s winning score later in the quarter.
