Escaped Tiger Causes Panic, Injuries
BEIJING (AP) _ A tiger escaped from its cage, attacked a boy and triggered a panic that left 40 people unconscious during a circus in rural china, a newspaper reported today.
The Workers Daily reported that the tiger broke out of its cage after being hit by its trainer for failing to carry out a trick during a show in northern China’s Shanxi province last month.
It said 40 people were knocked unconscious when hundreds of spectators surged toward the exit. One primary school student was attacked by the tiger and required 48 stitches in his face.
The daily did not say how the tiger was subdued and returned to its cage. It said a similar accident involving the same circus troupe had occurred the previous month and called for improved safety measures.
