Extradition to Canada approved for murder suspect

August 22, 2013

NEWARK, New Jersey (AP) — A U.S. judge has ordered the extradition of a murder suspect who was on Canada’s list of the 10 most wanted.

Dieuseul Jean is accused in Montreal of beating and stabbing his girlfriend on Christmas Day 1995. Juthlande Pierre’s body was found in the basement three weeks later.

The Record newspaper reports Jean had bought a one-way bus ticket to New Jersey. Authorities finally tracked him down. He had been living under the assumed name “Jean Gardy Mentor.”

Prosecutors say Jean was caught after he applied to obtain U.S. citizenship under his alias and his fingerprints matched those of the suspect on file with Interpol.
