Guerrero, Loretta Leave Game

September 22, 2001

MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Cincinnati’s Wilton Guerrero and Milwaukee’s Mark Loretta left Friday’s game in the sixth inning after colliding at first base.

With Todd Walker at first base, Guerrero laid down a perfect bunt. Guerrero and Loretta, Milwaukee’s second baseman, arrived at first base at the same time as the ball, which was thrown by third baseman Lou Collier.

Loretta went airborne, flipping over Guerrero and landing on his head. Both players were on the ground for several minutes before leaving the field without assistance.

Loretta was removed for precautionary reasons and was listed as day to day. Guerrero’s status wasn’t available.

It was Guerrero’s second bunt single of the game. Ken Griffey Jr., the next hitter, belted a three-run homer to give the Reds a 5-2 lead.
