WASHINGTON (AP) _ Lauren Jackson scored 25 points and Sue Bird added 21 as the Seattle Storm overcame a career-high 32 points by Chamique Holdsclaw to beat the Washington Mystics 80-71 Saturday.

Holdsclaw, who also had 11 rebounds, rejoined the Mystics after missing nine games with a high left ankle sprain sustained June 28. Washington, which has lost three straight and four of five, was 5-4 in her absence.

Seattle trailed 66-59 when Bird hit a 3-pointer with 4:45 left in the game, starting a 12-0 run.

Jackson tied the game with 4:04 remaining, converting a short jumper from the right side after Bird’s miss and Bird gave the Storm the lead for good on a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 3:18 left.

The Storm beat Washington for the first time in four meetings.

The Mystics took advantage of Seattle’s 2-for-13 start from the field, scoring 11 unanswered points for a 13-2 lead with 14:03 left in the first half.

Holdsclaw, who had a hand in Washington’s first six points, showed no rust. She scored the Mystics’ first points on a 12-foot baseline jumper, then sprung Stacey Dales-Schuman on a transition basket before hitting a pair of free throws.

Jackson, who scored 12 first-half points, helped the Storm chip away. She capped a 9-2 run with a 3-pointer from the left side, trimming the deficit to 30-25 with 5:19 left in the half, and her basket with 18.3 seconds to go got Seattle within 41-39 at halftime.
