Reds says Will Genia has signed with Top 14 French club

April 3, 2015

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) — Australia scrumhalf Will Genia has signed a three-year contract with French Top 14 side Stade Francais.

The Queensland Reds said Genia, who has played 58 tests for the Wallabies — four as captain — will move to France following this year’s Rugby World Cup, which ends in late October.

The Papua New Guinean-born Genia moved to Brisbane as a young teenager and made his Queensland debut against Japan in 2006. He led the Queensland side, where he has played 104 matches, to the Super Rugby title in 2011.

Genia says “having our first baby, Olivia, has changed my perspective and (wife) Vanessa and I decided we wanted to experience life in a different part of the world ... I decided that it was the right time to make the move.”
