Sweetwater to add 1,000 jobs in Fort Wayne
Sweetwater announced today that it will add 1,000 jobs by 2022 as part of a 385,000-square-foot expansion at its campus northwest of Fort Wayne.
The $76.4 million project will include a 350,000-square-foot warehouse and a 35,000-square-foot conference center.
The new jobs will include logistics, marketing and administrative personnel. The positions will pay $54,000 a year on average.
Sweetwater, an online retailer of musical instruments and audio equipment, currently employs more than 1,300 people at its operation along U.S. 30.
“I’m trying to grow jobs, whether it’s at Sweetwater or at all the other businesses we own,” Sweetwater founder and leader Chuck Surack said at a ground-breaking ceremony this afternoon.
“Anything we can do to create more jobs and then get people here to fill them is really going to help us move forward,” he told an audience that included Gov. Eric Holcomb, local and state government officials and business leaders.
“Today’s announcement is music to my ears,” Holcomb said.
He said Sweetwater attracts “the top talent in an uber-competitive world... This is from all over the country and all over the world.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is offering Sweetwater up to 200,000 in training grants for the expansion, which will be on the west end of Sweetwater’s campus.
The warehouse will include space for storage, musical gear testing and photography, offices and customer pickup.
