CHELMSFORD -- More than 1,000 packages from a UPS truck spilled on Interstate 495 after the truck and a tractor-trailer crashed late Wednesday night, according to State Police.
It was the second of two crashes on the southbound side of the highway in Chelmsford around 10:30 p.m., resulting in three people getting transported to Lowell General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The first crash involved a tractor-trailer and a personal vehicle.
The second crash involved the UPS truck and tractor-trailer. The spilled parcels were reloaded onto another UPS truck that responded to the scene from the company’s nearby facility.
Two of the three lanes were closed for the clean-up operation and crash investigation. All lanes were reopened by about 2 a.m. Thursday.
The investigation into the causes of the separate crashes is being conducted by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section.
