Victor Avenue Wins Yamanin Purse

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) _ Victor Avenue, with Pat Day aboard, battled to the early lead and then withstood a late rally by favored Bet On Sunshine to post a 1 1/2-length win in Tuesday’s $37,760 Yamanin Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Churchill Downs.

Winning for the fourth time in eight starts this year, Victor Avenue covered the six furlongs in 1:10 2/5 and paid $9.20, $3.60 and $2.80. Bet On Sunshine, ridden by Jose Valdivia, closed from fifth as he charged four wide at the top of the stretch and returned $2.60 and $2.60. In Full Control finished another three-lengths back under Robbie Albarado and paid $5.40.

Owned by William Heiligbrodt, Ted Keefer and Walter New, Victor Avenue earned $22,568 to increase his lifetime total to $91,501. The Texas-bred son of Avenue of Flags was coming off a win at Turfway on Sept. 20. Victor Avenue improved his career record to 5-2-0 from nine starts.
