Man killed while helping fix semi along I-80 near Seward

November 10, 2018

A 41-year-old man helping to fix a semi stopped alongside Interstate 80 Wednesday was killed after the driver accidentally pulled forward while he was underneath the rig, according to a Seward County Sheriff’s news release.

Jeremy Covert of York was one of two roadside assistance workers from TA Petro of York who stopped to help Jon Christensen, 71 of Lakeland, Florida, with a mechanical issue 11 miles west of the Seward exit, the release said.

After the problem was fixed, Christensen got inside the cab and began driving the tractor trailer without knowing Covert had gone back under the semi, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was hit and pronounced dead at the scene.
