Conn’s HomePlus teams up with Houston Texans
Conn Appliances Inc. partnered with the Houston Texans to deliver some fun for patients at Texas Children’s Hospital in mid-December.
Conn’s HomePlus, through its charitable arm, Conn’s Cares, contributed mobile gaming stations valued at nearly $3,200, to provide entertainment for children unable to make it to playrooms throughout the hospital.
“It was humbling to contribute to Texas Children’s Hospital and provide these kids with the comforts of home, especially when they were away during the holidays,” said Eddie Combs, chief marketing officer at Conn’s HomePlus. “Some of the portable gaming products were used by the kids upon delivery. It is our understanding that the remaining gaming stations would be set up shortly following our visit on Dec.18.
“This is the first time that we’ve worked with Texas Children’s Hospital in recent years,” said Combs. “We’ve made great connections with the team there and are hopeful to find an opportunity to work together again in the future. The effort with Texas Children’s Hospital was an extension of our partnership with the Houston Texans. We believe in giving back to the communities we serve, and wanted to select an organization that embodied what it means to help others ‘Make It Happen’ in their lives. Texas Children’s Hospital does just that,” said Combs.
“We relaunched our partnership with the Houston Texans in 2017 and have been working with the team to make positive strides in the Houston area through efforts with The Boys & Girls Club, HISD and Texas Children’s Hospital, to name a few,” added Combs. “Collaborating with the Houston Texans to spread some cheer at Texas Children’s Hospital during the holiday season is important to our company,” he said.
The special delivery involved creating three mobile gaming stations, which included three, 32-inch Samsung TVs, a PlayStation 4 Pro Marvel Spiderman, Nintendo Switch Gaming Bundle with Super Mario and Xbox One X Call of Duty BO4 Bundle with NBA 2K19.
During the special delivery, laughter filled the air as patients and their families were surprised with the new gaming stations and were delighted by an appearance from Houston Texans linebacker Brian Peters and TORO.
“It is always a great opportunity to visit Texas Children’s Hospital and put a smile on the kids’ faces, especially during the holiday season,” Peters said. “Some of these children will not be able to go home for the holidays, so for Conn’s HomePlus to install the gaming systems is definitely going to be a highlight during this time of year.”
Combs said, “The Conn’s Cares platform was created to give back to communities and people from all walks of life. We’ve worked with youth organizations, hospitals, shelters, community centers, food banks, and other causes across the 14 states where we operate, including a donation of more than $500k to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. This holiday season we also partnered with the Cam Newton Foundation to contribute to (four) Charlotte-area organizations and worked with Barrett House in Albuquerque, NM to provide the shelter with new washers and dryers for their residents.”
Initiatives facilitated through Conn’s Cares, including nearly $575,000 in donated funds and products, have been implemented by Conn’s HomePlus for local, community-based, charitable organizations since 2017, according to a news release.
