Living Off The Grid workshop set for May 7

May 6, 2019

HUNTINGTON - Have you ever thought of living off the grid and not having any bills? Well, Alex Cole has not only thought about it - he is doing just that.

Cole, who is a community organizer for the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, will give a workshop at OVEC’s offices at 725 14th St. W., at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, called Living Off The Grid. The workshop is sponsored by ROAR (Reimagine Our Appalachian Region).

Cole, who has a degree in Environmental Geography and History, found himself broke and in debt after school. Instead of leaving the area to pursue a career, he decided to return to his family farm in Mason County. At this free workshop, participants can learn how the Ohio University graduate has gone back to the land and his family’s farm in West Virginia to build his own cabin, grow his own food, install solar panels to create his own energy and use permaculture as a guidepost for living his life.
