DIGHTON, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts boy mauled to death by dogs has been laid to rest.

WPRI-TV reports a funeral service was held Saturday at His Providence Church in Swansea for 14-year-old Ryan Hazel. A private burial followed.

The Rehoboth teen had been caring for dogs at a home in nearby Dighton on May 9 when he was apparently mauled by about four of 20 total dogs in the house. A neighbor found Hazel after his parents called concerned the task was taking longer than usual.

The high school freshman regularly checked in on the dogs for their owner, Scott Dunmore. Police say Dunmore is a dog trainer and was in Boston at the time. He’s cooperating with police.

The dogs remain under quarantine and may face a dangerousness hearing.
