Drunken man punches police officer
An intoxicated 51-year-old Rochester man was arrested Friday night after punching a Rochester police officer in the face, a Rochester police spokeswoman said.
The man was spotted at Sixth Street and Ninth Avenue Southeast by police, who determined that the man was so intoxicated that he posed a threat to himself. The drunken man was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys. While at the hospital, he hit the officer in the face “with a closed fist, resulting in injury,” said Rochester Police Lt. Gretchen O’Neil.
After the man was cleared by the hospital staff, he was transported to the detention center and jailed. He could face fourth-degree assault charges for assaulting a police officer.
O’Neil said the police officer was released from the hospital with no life-threatening injuries.
