Democrats pick candidate for special House election
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Democrats have selected a candidate to run for a seat left vacant by a recently re-elected Democratic lawmaker who took a private sector job.
The Maine Democratic Party said Bath Democrats selected Bath City Council Vice Chairman Sean Paulhus as their candidate.
The special election is set for April 2.
Former Rep. Jennifer DeChant last month announced her resignation effective Feb. 1. She’s served as representative to House District 52 since 2012.
Legislative staffer Katie Walsh says DeChant is headed to telecommunications and media company Charter Communications.
Maine Democrats, Green Independents and Republicans had until Feb. 22 to choose candidates for the seat. Write-in candidates must declare their candidacy by March 1.
