Mount Union 52, Hanover 18

ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) _ Bill Borchert passed for a NCAA Division III playoff record 584 yards and Mount Union rolled up a playoff record 773 total yards of offense as the Purple Raiders defeated Hanover 52-18 on Saturday.

Mount Union (11-0) will host Wheaton, Ill., in a second-round game next Saturday. Hanover ends its season at 10-1, the first time in more than 100 seasons the team has won 10 games.

Another Mount Union quarterback, Jim Ballard, set the previous passing mark of 461 yards in 1993. Mount Union held the old total offense record of 659 yards, set against St. John’s in 1993.

Borchert, who attempted 46 passes, also set a playoff record with 37 completions. Hoefstra’s Jim Lynch established the old mark of 32 in 1990.

The Purple Raiders’ Todd Zufra caught 16 passes for 265 yards, both of which are also post-season records. Zufra also caught two scoring passes.

Teammate Brian Flinn had six catches for 148 yards, including an 81-yard score from Borchert. Eric Brock rushed for two touchdowns, and Borchert ran for another.

Panthers quarterback Terry Peebles completed 31-of-67 passes for 409 yards and two touchdowns, both to Josh Fleming.
