Longtime head of Iraqi Catholics in US steps down
SOUTHFIELD, Michigan (AP) — The founder of the U.S. branch of the Chaldean Church is stepping down after 32 years.
The Detroit Free Press reports that 76-year-old Bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim has led the Iraqi Catholic community in the eastern half of the U.S.
Ibrahim heads the Michigan-based Chaldean Eparchy of St. Thomas the Apostle. Michigan has one of the nation’s largest communities of Chaldeans.
Ibrahim will be replaced by 43-year-old Rev. Frank Kalabat, who is scheduled to be installed on June 14.
