Stamford dealership gives away car leases to veterans

November 14, 2018

STAMFORD — Stamford Ford President Dominic Franchella honored two local veterans this week with new cars.

“It was a very touching event that brought tears to a lot of eyes,” Franchella said.

Retired U.S. Marine Cpl. Andrew Burns was presented with a new Ford Explorer and retired U.S. Army Col. Vanessa Benson received an Army green Ford F-150 pickup truck. They each received three-year leases for the vehicles.

Franchella said he tried to give away his first lease to a veteran last year, but because the recipient was in the Army Reserve, he was unable to accept more than $1,000 in benefits. So Franchella decided to give away two leases this year.

“I realized that we have our freedoms and liberties because of these young men and women are sacrificing their own time and this country does not take care of these veterans the way they should when they retire,” Franchella said. “For me, it is a worthy cause to help some of them.”

Franchella said he is selling new and used cars to veterans this month for the same price his dealership pays for them.
