MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ Corey Croom scored the game’s only touchdown following a fumble recovery and Ball State beat Ohio University 10-6 Saturday in the Mid-American Conference.

Croom scored from 4 yards out at 1:55 of the first quarter for Ball State (5-4, 3-3) after Ohio quarterback Thomas Dubs was sacked on the third play of the game by Bryant Branigan. Denny Thompson recovered at the 8-yard line, and two runs by Croom put the ball in the end zone.

Jeff Marchant kicked field goals of 25 and 19 yards in the second quarter as the Bobcats (2-6-1, 1-5-1) closed to 7-6.

Croom had 7-yard touchdown run called back on a holding penalty with 10:00 left in the game. After Mike Neu was sacked, Kenny Stucker missed a 43-yard field goal attempt.

Stucker also missed a 41-yard attenpt in the second quarter, but did kick a 29-yarder with 2:58 remaining.

Ohio had another chance, driving to Ball State’s 33 with 1:27 left, but Mark Parris intercepted Dubs’ pass and returned the ball to Ball State’s 44.

With 10 seconds left, Dubs tried a desperation pass that was intercepted by Malawi Hills at Ball State’s 13.

Croom rushed for 88 yards on 26 carries for the Cardinals, while Neu completed 10 of 17 passes for 105 yards without an interception.

Tim Curtis ran for 148 yards on 37 carries for Ohio. Dubs completed 14 of 27 passes for 159 yards with the two interceptions. Ohio also lost two of five fumbles, while Ball State did not commit a turnover.

Richard Hill caught nine passes for 119 yards for the Bobcats.
