N.Y. Man Charged In GCMC Scuffle
SCRANTON — A patient who went to Geisinger Community Medical Center for a mental health evaluation punched a nurse and scuffled with security guards, city police said.
Raymond P. Alvarez, 24, Islip, New York, faces five counts each of aggravated and simple assault and harassment after the incident Tuesday, police said.
One of the guards told police that Alvarez, who was referred for an evaluation from Marworth Treatment Center, had removed his clothing and starting swinging at a nurse when told to put them back on, police said. He then hit and kicked four guards when they come to assist the nurse.
Alvarez was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge John Pesota, who set his bail at $25,000. His preliminary hearing was scheduled Wednesday at 11 a.m.
