Students escape injury in Effingham school bus crash
FLORENCE, S.C. -- A bus load of students Thursday afternoon escaped injury when their bus ran a wheel into a ditch at the corner of Poor Farm and Bannockburn Roads in Effingham.
The wreck happened about 2:35 p.m. and was responded to by Howe Springs firefighters, medics with Florence County EMS, Florence County Sheriff’s deputies and was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The students were seen to at the scene by medics with Florence County EMS. Several parents picked up their children, the others were loaded back onto the bus once it was towed out of the ditch.
No injuries were reported, according to a Howe Springs officer.
The intersection was blocked for about 45 minutes.
A Florence One Schools release indicated the bus was running a route from Dewey L. Carter Elementary School and had 51 students on board at the time of the incident.
