Still no ID on body found near border wall
The Brownsville Police Department has so far been unable to identify a body found in the Rio Grande by Border Patrol on Sunday.
Police Spokeswoman Melissa Gonzalez said officers responded to a call from Border Patrol at 3:44 p.m. about a body floating in the river.
The Brownsville Fire Department also responded to recover the body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition, Gonzalez said.
Border Patrol discovered the body south of the 2800 to 3000 block of Impala Drive neighborhood near the border wall east of Veterans International Bridge.
Gonzalez said police are waiting on the results of an autopsy and an active death investigation is ongoing.
