Samfox electrifies Cleveland Sessions with soulful guitar rock: Watch the performance

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Samfox made waves with the debut of its 2016 EP, “The Feels,” an infectious marriage of blues, soul and rock and roll. Named one of our “Ohio bands to know” later that year, Samfox’s momentum has only continued to barrel full-steam ahead.

Anchored by the chemistry of vocalists Braxton Taylor and Charity Cunningham, the six-piece indie act has spent the last two years etching out its own place in the scene. “The Feels” introduced Samfox as a band unable to be put in a box – their gritty, slinky sound, raucous live act and electrifying soulfulness garnered them fans from across the musical spectrum.

On stage, that smoldering energy is only amplified.

The band took a short hiatus from recording music before releasing the Cunningham-led “Baby Blues” in 2017. That December, they premiered “Misunderstood,” a track penned about living with anxiety, on Cleveland.com. Taylor announced the band would be approaching new material by releasing singles versus the traditional album format.

Since the band hit the scene, it’s played festivals throughout town and shows at venues around the region. That includes the band’s last Cleveland show on July 28, where Samfox participated in The Cleveland Sessions, presented by Miller Lite.

The band performed three songs for the video series in front of a live audience at Music Box Supper Club. “Charmagne” is from the band’s debut EP, “The Feels,” and “Double Negative” and “Daredevil” are unreleased tracks.

You can watch the performance in the video above.

After the show, Taylor and Cunningham gathered on stage for a Cleveland Sessions interview as well, where they talked about the evolution of a band, their songwriting and what’s next. Watch the interview below.
