Airport Board Reports Increase In Passengers Last Month

March 1, 2019

PITTSTON TWP. — More passengers boarded planes at the local airport than any previous January in its history, airport director Carl Beardsley Jr. announced Thursday. The 20,846 departures from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport last month represented a 12.4 percent increase over January 2018, which had 18,542 departures, the airport agenda shows. The previous record January was in 2017, 18,826. Airport director Carl Beardsley Jr. attributed the increase to new American Airlines’ and United Airlines’ new flights to Chicago that began last year. January marked the six consecutive monthly departure record. — BORYS KRAWCZENIUK
