Business fire closes Maumee for hours
Crews from the Fort Wayne Fire Department swarmed a warehouse just east of downtown Tuesday evening, forcing the closure of Maumee Avenue for several hours.
Firefighters got out of the building after the metal roof was reported sagging. Crews braved wind, snow and ice to battle the fire.
The fire started just after 5:30 p.m. at Hometown Filter in the 1900 block of Maumee Avenue, east of South Anthony Boulevard and near Memorial Park.
Large hoses from at least five fire department trucks crisscrossed the street as traffic was affected along Maumee near Indiana Tech. The road remained closed to traffic past 10 p.m. Shortly before 10 p.m., a large backhoe could be seen parked in front of the structure.
The cause of the fire was under investigation late Tuesday.
