Injured Hip Keeps Lampley Off Air
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Announcer Jim Lampley was the first casualty of Saturday night’s Roy Jones Jr.-Julio Gonzalez boxing card at Staples Center.
Lampley, who was to handle the blow-by-blow description of three title fights on pay-per-view, apparently dislocated a hip less than two hours before airtime.
Lampley, who recently had hip replacement surgery for a second time, hurt himself as he was standing up after having dinner.
HBO spokesman Ray Stallone said Lampley was taken to a hospital, with Fran Charles filling in for him.
``Jim just stood up and said, `I think I dislocated my hip,′ `` commentator Larry Merchant said. ``He was in a lot of pain.″
