Zoggeler Wins Luge Opener at World Cup
SIGULDA, Latvia (AP) _ Olympic and world champion Armin Zoggeler of Italy won a season-opening World Cup luge race Sunday.
Among the women, Silke Kraushaar and Sylke Otto led a 1-2 German finish.
Competing on the same track where he won at last season’s worlds, Zoggeler was fastest on both runs and finished in a combined time of 1 minute, 38.385 seconds for his 22nd career win.
Austria’s Rainer Margreiter was second in 1:38.579 and countryman Markus Kleinheinz, last season’s overall singles champion, was third.
Kraushaar had the two fastest runs, finishing in 1:26.452. Otto, a three-time defending world champion, was second in 1:26.579. Veronika Halder of Austria was third.
In men’s doubles, world champions Andreas and Wolfgang Linger won in 1:26.493. Italians Christian Oberstolz and Patric Gruber of Italy were second in 1:26.570. Austrians Tobias Schiegl and Markus Schiegl were third.
