SOCHI SCENE: Norwegian threads

February 11, 2014

SOCHI, Russia (AP) — Four years on from the Vancouver Olympics, Norway’s men’s curlers haven’t lost their taste for fashion.

The Norwegians were the talk of the 2010 Games for wearing a range of funky, diamond-printed pants during their games. And they have emerged for their first competitive games of the Sochi Olympics — against the United States on Monday and Russia on Tuesday — with more eye-catching patterns on their pants.

First, they donned the Ice Blocks range — a mixture of red, white, blue and gray squares and shapes. Then against the Russians, the pattern was red-and-blue splattered paint.

Whisper it, but it was something of a let-down. Because for their practice sessions on Saturday and Sunday, the team wore flat caps, soccer socks from the Norwegian national team and flowery knee-length knickers.

Maybe they’re saving that outfit for the final.
