Two Santa Fe medical cannabis dispensaries burglarized
Burglars hit two medical cannabis dispensaries in Santa Fe at nearly the same time early Wednesday morning, which appears to be part of a recent pattern.
New MexiCann Natural Medicine, 1592 San Mateo Lane, was burglarized around 1:30 a.m., and Kure, 220 N. Guadalupe St., at 2 a.m., police reports say.
Four men smashed Kure’s front door and rummaged around inside for about five minutes before leaving, according to a store employee. No items were stolen because valuables are now locked in a safe overnight, employee Judi Kubiak said, adding it was the third time the business had been hit in recent weeks.
“We can’t even believe it,” she said.
The dispensary had been burglarized about six weeks ago, Kubiak said, when thieves got away with a number of items, including concentrated oils and edibles, and then about two weeks later. Police assured workers at the time that the suspects had been caught, she said.
“It’s some kind of organized crime, I think,” Kubiak added.
Wednesday’s burglary at Kure was recorded on surveillance video. According to Kubiak, the men were wearing dark clothing and hoodies and had masks over their faces.
By the time police responded to the business’s security alarm, the burglars were gone, she said.
New MexiCann Natural Medicine staff did not respond to a call for comment on the burglary at that dispensary. The police report indicates a substantial loss, noting property damage and larceny of between $2,500 and $20,000.
The burglars had left the store by the time police arrived, the report says.
Police, citing active investigations, did not release any further information about the burglaries Wednesday.
