OLBH says its planning to eliminate positions
ASHLAND - Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital has confirmed that it is working to eliminate a number of positions at the hospital in Ashland.
“Health care is changing, and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital is always evaluating how we can best meet our community’s needs while serving as good stewards of our health ministry and its resources,” according to a statement from Kevin Compton, communications and advocacy specialist with Bon Secours, the company that owns the hospital. “To ensure we can meet the health care needs of our patients well into the future, we are examining all expenses and identifying efficiencies, processes and best practices to help serve our community and keep our ministry viable. This work will result in the elimination of a number of positions, many of which are currently vacant.”
When asked how many positions will be eliminated and when the personnel cuts will happen, Compton said the work is still being done and there currently isn’t a number of positions to report or a date for when layoffs would take place.
“Though the realignment will produce a reduction in some areas, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital is hiring in many of our patient care departments,” he said.
Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital remains the largest employer in Greenup County with more than 1,000 employees both at the hospital and throughout the hospital’s affiliated practices and services in the Tri-State area.
Back in the fall, Bon Secours Health System and Cincinnati-based Mercy Health jointly announced the two would be known collectively as Bon Secours Mercy Health once they complete a merger.
Bon Secours owns, manages or has joint ventures in 20 hospitals, including Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland. Mercy Health is the largest health system in Ohio, with 23 hospitals and 26 post-acute care facilities. Combined, the Bon Secours Mercy Health system operates 1,000 sites staffed by 57,000 employees.
