Trooper on vacation saves swimmer caught in riptide
WEST TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey State Police say a trooper who was vacationing off North Carolina’s Outer Banks saved a woman who got caught in a riptide.
NJ.com reports Trooper Craig Kempinski was enjoying the beach in Hatteras Saturday when his wife noticed a swimmer in distress. Kempinski quickly grabbed a boogie board and paddled out about 200 yards to the woman.
Kempinski placed the woman on the board and brought her back to shore with the help of a good Samaritan. The woman wasn’t injured.
Kempinski has served as a New Jersey state trooper for nearly 11 years.
