ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) _ Four NHL referees and four linesman were chosen Monday to officiate at the 2006 Turin Olympics.
Paul Devorski, Dan Marouelli and Don Van Massehoven of Canada, and Dennis LaRue of the United States will referee men’s games at the Olympics in February, the International Ice Hockey Federation said.
The linesmen will be Steve Miller and Pierre Racicot of Canada, and Thor Nelson and Tony Sericolo of the United States.
Six other referees and 10 more linesmen also will be selected to work the games.
``This is the third consecutive Olympics where we will have NHL players and NHL referees,″ IIHF president Rene Fasel said. ``This IIHF-NHL cooperation ... provides possibilities that are beneficial to the game. Sometimes we learn from them, sometimes they learn from us.″
The Olympic ice hockey tournament is played according to IIHF rules. All the referees and linesmen will go through instructional sessions to make sure they officiate according to the same standard.
