Jefferson County man accused of raping 9-year-old girl
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Sept. 5 after a young girl reported that he had raped and groped her while babysitting.
Jesus Armenta, 30, was arrested and charged with lewd conduct with a minor, punishable with up to a life sentence.
The 9-year-old victim said during a forensic interview her father had left to pick up pizza on Sept. 2 and she stayed with Armenta for an hour. According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim was watching YouTube videos when Armenta sat next to her and began touching her. Armenta then molested and raped the victim, who tried to get away, the affidavit said. She said Armenta stopped when he thought her father was returning.
A detective spoke to Armenta, who denied raping the victim. The victim’s parents told police Armenta was a flight risk because he has family in California and Mexico.
Armenta was arraigned Sept. 6 and his bond was set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sept. 20 in Jefferson County Courthouse. A bond reduction hearing is scheduled for the same time.
