Russia’s GDP Rises 1.3 Percent
MOSCOW (AP) _ Russia’s gross domestic product was up 1.3 percent in January compared to the same period last year, the latest data pointing to modest economic growth this year, officials said Wednesday.
The government has forecast growth of about 2 percent this year, which would be the first significant improvement in the economy this decade.
The State Statistics Committee, which released Wednesday’s figure, reported recently that industrial output in January was up 1.5 percent compared to a year earlier.
Russia’s formal economy stabilized last year after years of sharp declines.
