Air warning issued

November 14, 2018

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — The Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District is warning of impacts from prescribed burns in the northern Arizona Kaibab National Forest, Nov. 13 and 14, on Needles, the Mojave National Preserve, Blythe and the Palo Verde Valley.

District spokesperson Martial Haprov commented, “We don’t expect the conditions to be largely hazardous, but the smoke has the potential to create mildly unhealthy air quality in your communities … residents in your communities, especially older adults, young children, and those with asthma, COPD and other respiratory illnesses as well as heart disease, could experience health effects.”

The warning is based on the location of the burns and wind pattern forecasts.
