Middlebury snaps College of New Jersey’s 102-game win streak
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) _ The College of New Jersey women’s lacrosse team’s 102-game winning streak came to an end Sunday as Middlebury College defeated the Lions 14-9 in the NCAA Division III championship game.
The loss was the Lions’ first since April 14, 1991. The win by the Vermnont school also snapped TCNJ’s official NCAA title streak at four. (The Lions also won in 1991 and 1992, but later vacated the 1992 title.)
Middlebury (17-1) won the championship for the first time.
Defense was the key as Middlebury held the Lions scoreless for a 26:11 span from late in the first half to the 7:57 mark of the second half. Emily Bracken made 13 saves for Middlebury, which never trailed in the game.
Middlebury’s Amy DiAdamo led all scorers with six goals and an assist.
Megan Tropp had three goals and an assist for TCNJ, which finished its season 14-1. Melanie Vasofski and Jessica McCourt had two goals each for the Lions.
