Police: Off-duty sergeant shot in attempted robbery
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans police say an off-duty sheriff’s office sergeant has been shot and injured during an attempted robbery.
Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office in-house attorney Blake Acuri tells NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune that the 41-year-old sergeant was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said in a preliminary report that the sergeant was in his car Tuesday when he was approached by a man wearing a black ski mask. Police say the sergeant exited his car and the masked man shot him in the back before fleeing.
Sheriff Marlin Gusman says violence in the community touches everyone, including members of their law enforcement community. Gusman says he has directed his office’s investigators to provide whatever assistance it can to New Orleans police as they work to apprehend those involved.
