Yates Wins Ohio Superbike Race
LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) _ Pole-sitter Aaron Yates led each lap and finished nearly three seconds ahead of the competition to win Sunday’s American Motorcyclist Association Superbike race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Yates, riding a Suzuki, won the 26-lap, 100-kilometer race in 38 minutes, 44.25 seconds, averaging almost 97 mph.
Jamie Hacking finished second, 2.87 seconds behind Yates. Tom Kipp of Chardon finished third.
Pascal Picotte, the 1996 Mid-Ohio winner, finished 30th out of 44 riders. Points leader Doug Chandler, trying to win his third straight riders’ championship, placed eighth.
In other races, Steve Crevier won the Pro Honda Oils 600 SuperSport. Chandler took third in that race.
Paul Harrell earned his first win of the year in the Progressive Insurance Pro Thunder Series.
