NBA Draft Lottery: How to watch, Wizards odds, what time

May 14, 2019

Zion Williamson is as much of a sure thing as any NBA prospect in recent memory. Tuesday night, the basketball world will finally know where the destined No. 1 pick in 2019 will start his pro career.

But Williamson is far from the only prize in this year’s NBA draft. Williamson’s Duke teammate R.J. Barrett, mid-major star Ja Morant and national champion De’Andre Hunter all could go in the top five.

That’s why it’s important to see where the Washington Wizards land. Here’s what you need to know before the ping-pong balls are drawn.

When: Tuesday, May 14, 8:30 p.m.

Where: Chicago

TV Channel: ESPN (online streaming on WatchESPN)

Odds:

New York Knicks (17-65): 14% for No. 1 pick, 52.1% for a top-four pick Cleveland Cavaliers (19-63):14% for No. 1 pick, 52.1% for a top-four pick Phoenix Suns (19-63):14% for No. 1 pick, 52.1% for a top-four pick Chicago Bulls (22-60): 12.5% for No. 1 pick, 48% for a top-four pick Atlanta Hawks (29-53): 10.5% for No. 1 pick, 42.1% for a top-four pick Washington Wizards (32-50): 9% for No. 1 pick, 37.2% for a top-four pick New Orleans Pelicans (33-49): 6% for No. 1 pick, 26.3% for a top-four pick Dallas Mavericks* (33-49):6% for No. 1 pick, 26.3% for a top-four pick Memphis Grizzlies* (33-49):6% for No. 1 pick, 26.3% for a top-four pick Minnesota Timberwolves (36-46): 3% for No. 1 pick, 13.9% for a top-four pick Los Angeles Lakers (37-45): 2% for No. 1 pick, 9.4% for a top-four pick Charlotte Hornets (39-43): 1% for No. 1 pick, 4.8% for a top-four pick Miami Heat (39-43):1% for No. 1 pick, 4.8% for a top-four pick Sacramento Kings* (39-43):1% for No. 1 pick, 4.8% for a top-four pick

*The Kings owe their pick to the Boston Celtics, unless they defy the odds and win the No. 1 overall pick in which case it belongs to the Philadelphia 76ers, via the Markelle Fultz trade. The Grizzlies also owe the Celtics their pick only if it falls outside the top eight, and the Mavericks owe their pick to the Hawks if it’s outside the top five.

More about the Wizards:

Chances of receiving a top-three pick: 27.6% Chances of receiving a top-five pick: 37.2% Guaranteed a top-10 pick; worst possible position is No. 10 overall

(Odds tabulated by ESPN and CBS Sports)

It was important the Wizards sneaked away from the logjam of New Orleans, Dallas and Memphis in the final few games of the regular season; it improved Washington’s chances for the No. 1 pick immensely, and being among the six worst teams locked it into the top 10.

So even though there’s just a 9% shot of Williamson rattling the rims at Capital One Arena for the home team, the Wizards still have a good shot at landing another great piece from this draft, someone who will have an impact right away.
