Police: Man killed wife, exchanged fire with officers
SUTTON, W.Va. (AP) — Police say a West Virginia man fatally shot his wife and then exchanged fire with officers before he was subdued and arrested.
News outlets cited a criminal complaint and a release from State Police in reporting that 56-year-old John Homer Carroll Jr. of Sutton is accused of killing his wife, 54-year-old Donna Carroll, on Monday night, then calling 911 and shooting at officers and deputies who responded.
Police say officers returned fire and Sutton surrendered. Police said Sutton was treated for a grazing gunshot wound. No officers were injured.
Sutton was lodged in the Central Regional Jail on a $500,000 cash bond. Online jail records don’t indicate if he has an attorney.
