NEW YORK (AP) _ Chad Curtis singled home the go-ahead run after Darryl Strawberry's eighth-inning steal, and the New York Yankees rallied to beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4 Saturday for their 13th win in 14 games.

Mariano Rivera got his first save of the season with a perfect ninth as the Yankees won their fifth straight. On Friday night, Rivera made his first appearance since injuring his right groin on April 5.

David Wells (3-1) allowed all four runs _ three earned _ and five hits in eight innings, sending Detroit to its 10th consecutive road loss. He struck out four and walked two.

New York tied the game at 4 in the sixth when Bernie Williams doubled and shortstop Bill Ripken overran Strawberry's grounder for a two-base error.

Then with two outs in the eighth, Strawberry walked on a 3-2 pitch from Sean Runyan (0-1), stole second, and Curtis greeted Bryce Florie with an RBI single.

Trailing 3-0 in the fifth, Detroit got four runs by bunching four hits around a throwing error by Wells on a potential double-play grounder.

Luis Gonzalez and Joe Oliver singled with one out, and Wells threw Ripken's bouncer into center field as Gonzalez scored and Oliver took third. Brian Hunter hit an RBI double, and Joe Randa followed with a two-run single.

New York took a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Tino Martinez hit his third homer, a solo shot off Brian Moehler, Williams walked, Strawberry tripled and Curtis doubled.

Moehler allowed four runs _ three earned _ and five hits in six innings, retiring 10 straight before Martinez's homer. He struck out five and walked three.
